BS/MD Medical

미국 의예과 전공

일반적으로 미국의대를 지원하기 위해서는 4년제 대학교에서 BA/BS 학위를 취득한 후 의과 전문대학원에 지원하게 됩니다. 하지만 한국과 같이 고등학생이 바로 의과대학에 지원할 수 있는 프로그램이 일부 대학에서 진행되고 있습니다.

BS/MD과정으로 6년에서 8년 프로그램인데 학업능력이 검증되고 의사가 되려는 의지가 확실히 있는 소수의 인원을 뽑기 때문에 경쟁이 매우 치열하고 합격률이 1~5%정도 입니다. 높은 스펙은 물론이고 의료계 봉사활동이 필수이며 지원자의 인성도 중요한 평가요소로 보고 있습니다.

이수과목 소개

BS/MD과정은 고등학교 졸업을 한 학생들을 위한 프로그램으로 두 개의 학위 (Bachelor of Science와 Doctor of Medicine)를 동시에 이수할 수 있는 과정입니다.

BS/MD과정을 이수하기 위해서는 고등학교 과정에서 AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP Physics등의 수학 및 과학 과목의 이수 뿐만 아니라 AP Psychology, AP English & Literature등의 기본 과목들을 이수하고 대학 진학 후에는 Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry 등의 기초 과목과 Anatomy & Physiology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience등 의학 관련 연계성이 높은 과정들을 공부하게 됩니다.

Boston University BS/MD Accelerated Program

Dr. Abdul Calvino.

Dr. Abdul Calvino는 보스턴 대학교 의과대학교 종양외과 부교수로 재직을 하고 있습니다. Dr. Calvino 교수님의 의학관심 분야는 침습성 결장 최소화,직상수술,간 답즙,췌장 수술 등이 있으며 또한 일반적인 수술 컨디션관련에 대한 부분을 전문분야로 다루고 있습니다. Dr. Calvino는 University of Illinois at Chicago에서 외과 인턴과 레지던트를 마쳤고 2년과정의 ACGME-accredited fellowship을 Roger Williams Medical Center에서 이수를 했습니다.

졸업 후 Career Path

BSMD과정은 6년-8년동안 기초과학분야와 메디컬 관련 세부 분야를 심도 있게 배우게 되는데 이 과정을 이수하게 되면 대부분 Medical 관련 산업분야에서 의료 활동을 하게 됩니다.

    Common Application, Coalition등 원서 포털에서 지원서와 함께 제출합니다. 학생만의 스토리를 흥미롭게 풀어낼 수 있는 좋은 기회로, 자신이 가진 장점과 인생관에 대해서 입학사정관에게 어필할 수 있는 기회입니다.

    Supplement Essay

    학생이 지원하는 학교별 에세이로 주로 “why”와 “how”를 확인하는 에세이입니다. Main 에세이에 비해 길이는 짧으나 학교 전공 및 학교 선택 이유 등 좀 더 세부적인 사항들에 대해 물어보는 질문이며 이 과정에서 자신의 전공 적합성과 경력을 결부시켜 자신이 최상의 지원자임을 강조하게 됩니다.

    3부까지 제출할 수 있으며, 학생이 의학분야에 관심이 있다는 점을 잘 알고 있는 선생님의 추천서를 제출합니다.

    인터뷰 (Interview)

    원서 제출 후 Finalist들에 대한 Admission에서 의무 인터뷰가 진행이 됩니다. 의사 지망생으로서 플랜과 생각 등 자신의 의학적 지식 뿐만 아니라 의료 관련 전반에 대한 본인의 생각을 잘 정리해서 인터뷰를 해야 합니다.

Brown University Liberal Medical Education (PLME) BS/MD Program

아이비리그 학교 중 하나인 브라운 대학은 PLME라는 프로그램을 통해서 브라운 대학의 Warren Alpert Medical School에 개런티 합격 프로그램을 제공합니다.

브라운 PLME 프로그램은 입학 허가된 학생들이 브라운 대학에서 4년 동안 학사 학위를 취득하고 워렌 앨퍼트 의과대학에서 4년을 보내는 BS/MD 프로그램 입니다.

PLME 프로그램은 합격할 경우 명문 의대 진학이 보장 되고, PLME 프로그램은 다른 BS/MD 프로그램보다 학부 과정의 유연성이 높아 많은 학생들에게 인기 있는 프로그램입니다.
