Senior Travels to Caribbean as Vet's First High School Intern


12학년 학생이 캐리비안에서 겪은 첫 수의사 인턴쉽 스토리


The Madeira School's signature program continues to provide all Madeira students with amazing internships and valuable experience in the working world. In honor of World Wildlife Day, senior Lola Hakimi '24 shared some highlights from her recent veterinary internship in the Caribbean.


마데이라 학교의 시그니처 프로그램은 모든 마데이라 학생들에게 다양한 분야의 인턴십 기회와 실제 직업 및 실무경험을 제공합니다. 세계 야생 동물의 날을 기념하여, 12학년에 재학중인 Lola Hakimi '24는 최근 자신이 캐리비안에서 겪은 수의사 인턴십중 기념할 만한 순간들에 대하여 이야기 하였습니다.





Madeira School: What was a memorable moment from your internship?

마데이라 학교: 인턴십중 기억에 남는 순간이 있나요?


Lola: The most memorable was the first surgery I observed, a cystotomy where a bladder stone was removed from a dog. The adrenaline I felt from being so close to the operating table and observing the veterinarian’s skills confirmed my passion for the veterinary industry.

Lola: 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 제가 참관한 첫 번째 수술인 개의 방광 결석 제거술을 했을 때 입니다. 바로 눈앞에서 숙련된 수의사의 수술을 지켜보며 느낀 흥분과 긴장감은 수의사에 대한 저의 꿈과 열정을 확신하게 되는 계기가 되었습니다.





Madeira School: How did your internship impact your plans for the future?

마데이라 학교: 인턴십이 미래 계획에 어떤 영향을 미쳤나요?


Lola: I have always had a passion for veterinary medicine, but this internship affirmed my desire to pursue this interest starting at the undergraduate level. I plan to major in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and hopefully attend veterinary school in the future!

Lola: 저는 항상 수의학에 관심과 열정을 가지고 있었는데, 이 인턴십을 통해서 제 열망이 확신이 되어 대학에서 수의학 전공을 하기로 결심 하였습니다.  대학에서 수의과학 전공을 이수하고 향후에는 수의학 전문의 과정에 진학하고 싶습니다!


Madeira School: Anything else you'd like to share about the experience?

마데이라 학교: 인턴십 경험중 공유하고 싶은 또 다른 내용이 있나요?


Lola: Don’t be afraid to seek opportunities that you are passionate about. You never know what you might be able to experience! I am forever grateful to NAS for taking me on as their first high school intern.

Lola: 자신이 열정을 가지고 있는 일이 있다면 두려워 하지말고 그 분야의 기회를 찾아 나서라고 말하고 싶습니다. 어떤 놀라운 경험을 하게 될지는 아무도 모르는 일이니까요! 저는 나스 (NAS)에서 처음으로 받아 준 고등학생 인턴이었는데, 이런 경험을 가능케 해준 나스(NAS)대해 고마운 마음을 잊을 수 없을거에요.
